Spring 2021 One Room Challenge Week 6: The Waiting Game

There was a lot that happened this past week! It feels kinda the opposite though since there isn’t any fun stuff happening in the room yet, BUT I can see the light and more importantly so can my Little. Let’s get to it then!!

Gaming Room Update: Slat Wall Completion and Selecting Custom Colors

The slat wall is FINISHED!! And we installed the platform and put the face frame on. I finished the cove crown AND I stained EVERYTHING ….. well ALMOST everything! It’s a big job so I’ve had to take it in parts.

I went to a custom shop here who specializes in mixing lacquer and conversion varnish, along with other specialty coatings. They were able to mix a stain to match the Apt2B console I am using for both the red oak and the birch. I wanted a really clean match for these and since I had to use different species, they accept stain differently. The shop did an amazing job because there is NO difference in color or undertone in the finishes. They accomplished what I could not and I’m pretty good at mixing custom colors.

They mixed Benjamin Moore Lexnmar stain, which is a wiping stain. It’s a resin alkyd clear base, which means that it can be customized. I’ve spec’d and used Ben Moore for a long time and I didn’t even know this product existed! A good Ben Moore store can match for you if they carry this product, my Ben Moore store didn’t carry it and I had to go to some of my cabinet vendors to ask who could mix for me. It turned out to be a great product!

The wood flooring I ordered came in, BUT three boxes are the wrong product so I now have to wait to finish the hallway. That is a huge problem just because of what it means logistically to get subs back and the coat involves to do so. I also can’t completely finish the project until the flooring arrives and that means I can’t put away all of my tools since I’ll have to install shoe mould still and paint. BUT I’m choosing not to focus on that and trusting that my entire home can get back to some semblance of normal after the 23rd!

We did manage to paint the entire room and had a little dance party while doing it. SO thank goodness that is done! Sophia helped with that and she did a great job!

Ordering Custom Drapes for a Beautiful Final Touch

My workroom, who amazingly offered to be a sponsor for the One Room Challenge, finished the drapes for the room! Amanda owns Sew Unordinary and she does a beautiful job on everything I’ve ever had her make for projects. She sent these gorgeous photos of the drapes in the really beautiful watercolor motif fabric I selected from Calico. The designers in Calico were so helpful and made sure that the fabric samples were sent out right away. I can’t wait to get the drapes installed in the room this weekend!! SOOO GOOD!!

That’s all I’ve got for this week! It’s getting close friends, just another two weeks until the reveal!! Can’t wait!

If you are just tuning in, you can catch up on the previous weeks here. Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four, Week Five.
