  • 01. DISCOVERY CALL

Our process begins with a Discovery Call to learn about your project, ask some initial questions and fill you in on our process along with how we interact with the team. This is a 20-30 minute conversation.

  • 02. SCOPE OF WORK CONSULTATION

We start every project with a Scope of Work Consultation. This is a working meeting and the first step in every project. During this time, we discuss your needs for your project, review images we have asked you to collect, review construction contracts and allowances, make any recommendations, and gather enough information so we can advise potential clients on the way to move forward.

  • 03. DESIGN

We start with an aesthetic direction for your home. Then, in collaboration with your architect, we create the floor plan, design interior architecture (beams, built-ins, etc.), create a furniture layout and lighting plan, and create other essential technical drawings and construction documents. The best part? We stamp and seal architectural drawings for permits!

  • 04. SOURCING

Next, we source materials and fixtures for every aspect of your home, including custom cabinetry, plumbing, appliances, lighting, furniture, and more. We can also create custom items where needed. We then assemble quotes from our trusted vendors and suppliers and present the design concept and investment overview to you in a Design Presentation.

  • 05. PROCUREMENT

Ordering materials is a joint effort between the builder/contractors, design team, vendors, and our clients. We help you navigate who orders what, and when, to keep the project on track. We will also repeat our Design Phase (above) for home furnishings, so we can procure them during the Construction Phase.

  • 06. CONSTRUCTION

We help you navigate the complex Construction Phase by keeping you abreast of progress, serving as liaison between you and your builder, and conducting planned site visits to keep the project aligned with our design direction. This phase is long and takes endurance, but you will finally see our planning come to life!

  • 07. INSTALLATION AND REVEAL

After construction finishes, we spend one or more days adding the final cosmetic touches: furnishings, art, accessories, and more. This is the moment when your house becomes a home. We photograph your home and invite you in for the grand reveal! Then, the home is all yours.

  • “Susan understands design from the ground up and is extremely creative with space, fabric, furnishings, accessories, and I could go on. She remains on budget and yet goes out of her way to accommodate.”

 FAQs

  • A: At a minimum, a project usually takes 4-6 months to complete from the initial consultation through the presentation of the client binder. New construction homes can take as long as two years to complete.

  • A: Most of our work is predominantly located in Charlotte, NC and surrounding cities of Columbia, Gastonia, and Charleston. We also service clients in other states. Please note that travel and stay fees apply to all areas outside of Charlotte.

  • A: Yes, we are happy to work with a builder and/or architect that you have already contracted. If you are still looking for these roles, we are also happy to introduce you to several that we know and trust!

  • A: It is best to bring an interior designer onto your team as early in the project as possible. Our role is to plan your home from the inside-out (focusing on your lifestyle and daily experience) while most builders and architects will plan a home from the outside-in. In other words, we bring out the best in each other, working together to create a home design that fits you like a glove.

  • A: One of our favorite things to do is work with your existing well-loved pieces and repurpose or reimagine them into the new design you’re envisioning. If it is possible to do so and if they work with the new design direction, let’s keep them and pair them with newly purchased furnishings that will make the entire space feel brand new.

  • A: Yes. We take great pride in assembling an extended team of vendors and suppliers with excellent customer service and products we stand behind for their quality, craftsmanship, customization (in color, fabric, dimensions, etc.) and comfort. Managing the procurement through our trusted partners also gives our process greater organization, efficiency, and access to professional installation. This is how we provide the best possible service to you!

  • We charge a fee for residential design services based on the scope of the project. This is based on historical data, so we can provide you with exceptional service. The fee will be outlined in your letter of agreement at the start of the project for full transparency. For furnishing procurement, we will also provide you with a detailed proposal that outlines your selection costs aligned with your desired investment. This is presented for approval at the final design presentation.
