Fall 2020 One Room Challenge Weeks 3-5: Home Office Design Concepts and Built-Ins

If you know me, it isn’t like me not to keep up with things. Honestly, I thought I would have time to at least get work done on our ORC room and put together a quick blog post, but ……. I literally have not had time to do any work at all on the room myself until this weekend and I’ll have to share that with you next week for the final week. For now, I’m going to do a quick recap of what happened (which, believe me, wasn’t much).

Week 3 Recap: Home Office Inspiration Boards

During week three we emptied out the room to prepare for the built-ins to go in. My carpenter started and finished them in two days. We also made an update to the boards since we have added a few things and paint colors were up in the air.

Week 4 Recap: Home Office Custom Built-Ins

Before we began construction on the custom built-ins

Built-ins are done and my carpenter came back to add the trim to the back of the desk and cut the panel for me to upholster it. We also decided to look at some other options for vinyl. I love Kravet for vinyl. They have so many options available at different price points.

After installation

After we looked at cost for the vinyl, I suggested to Ciara that we look at some less expensive options. We needed three yards and I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars when something less expensive would work. Kravet’s Smart line has great affordable options and we found one that was a perfect fit to the panels on the front of the drawers.

Week 5 Update: Statement Lighting and Cabinetry Paint

Week five really was just a bunch of boxes arriving and purchasing the paint. I love using Benjamin Moore’s Advance paint for cabinetry and trim. I have used Advance for many years and thought it would hold up well for the office. The light fixtures are all coming from Circa Lighting and I am really excited to get them hung. The office fixture is a Generation Lighting fixture and I’ve been dying to use it in a project, so I was thrilled when it worked for the office. The library sconces and the foyer flush mount fixture are Visual Comfort I took the opportunity to replace the foyer light since it’s right outside the office. That area of our home will be complete as well!

Stay Tuned…

That’s the update for now. Be sure to tune in next week to see the final week for most of the Guest Participants and the Featured Designers as well.
